Adidas Adizero Adios Pro review: Adidas’ Alphafly alternative after 30 miles

adidas adizero adios pro

It’s been a while since Adidas produced a performance shoe that in all honesty, could stand up, first to the Nike Vaporfly and then to the AlphaFly but with the shoe it calls its ‘fastest marathon shoe ever’, it’s hoping to have a shoe that can finally compete. ⁣But can it? I’ve been running in it and you can see what I found after 30 miles. Watch the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro review video below.

Spoiler alert: I think Adidas is back in the game

Adidas Adizero Adios Pro: What you need to know

Not to be mistaken for the Adidas Adizero Pro which is a different shot entirely, the Adios Pro packs that now-familiar combination of a high stack of light, responsive midsole foam, carbon (though not a full plate) and a lightweight mesh upper in a shoe that weighs 246g but comes in significantly cheaper than its rival carbon racers. ⁣

Adidas says this shoe is its fastest ever marathon shoe and is aiming it squarely at elite half marathon and sub-3 marathon runners. I’ve been lucky enough to try it out and though I’ve not yet run the full 26.2, I have done 30 miles with plenty of marathon pace, some faster 400s and some slower miles. ⁣

If you want to know how I found them, hit play on the first impressions review I did for The Run Testers above. In the meantime here are some of the main details. ⁣

Adidas Adizero Adios Pro review: Design details and price

Adidas Adizero Adios Pro review

The Adizero Adios Pro has a 39.5mm stack height in a UK size 7.5 just squeaking in under the 40mm limit set by World Athletics In January.

There’s a 10mm drop and it comes in at 246g for a UK men’s size 8.5. That’s heavier than the Nike Vaporfly and the Saucony Endorphin Pro which both come in around 230g in a UK men’s size 9 .

MIDSOLE: The cushioning is a new LightstrikePRO material, Adidas’ lightest and most responsive foam material to-date, and different to the Lightstrike you find in the SL20.

CARBON PLATE? There’s no full length carbon plate, instead you get five carbon-infused EnergyRods, placed in line with the metatarsal bones of the foot.

These rods are designed to improve your running economy so you can maintain your race pace for longer, and recover faster after hard, long runs

But there is a nylon and carbon-fibre heel plate on the top of the midsol, again to help with efficiency and provide stability at the ankle joint

UPPERS: There’s a very flexible CELERMESH mesh upper with virtually no overlays. It’s light, very see through and not very waterproof.

OUTSOLE: For grip and durability, the Adios Pro also have a thin layer of rubber to the forefoot and a couple of strips strategically placed on under the heel.

The UK price of the Adidas Adizero Adio Pro is £169.95. They’re $200 in the US.
