When you’re faced with a multi-stage ultra like the Marathon des Sables, where you’re obliged to be 100 per cent self sufficient and carry your own food, choosing what to take is tough. There’s a lot to quite literally weigh up. Not only will you need to know your food choices play nice with your stomach when you get deep into a long day of running, but you’ll also need to be getting maximum bang for buck for every gram of fuel you pack. When I raced the Marathon des Sables in 2015 I got the balance spot on and now I’m going back for the Half Marathon des Sables Fuerteventura I’ll be following the same approach as much as possible. Here’s what I’ll be packing for my Half Marathon des Sables nutrition.
