Podding through pain at the Race to the Stones

Race to the Stones Podcast

When you embark on 100km run there’s one thing you can guarantee, at some point it’s going to get hurty. As you slog your way towards the finish line your head will inevitably start yelling at you to stop. At that point you’ll need some killer tactics to keep moving past the pain barrier. Dixons Carphone – the sponsors of the Race to the Stones – think they have the answer, the comedy Race to the Stones podcast. Or as I like to call it, the Plodcast.

To help runners break through this wall, Dixons Carphone sent British comedians and running fanatics Paul Tonkinson and Rob Deering, aka the marathon men behind the well-known Running Commentary podcast, to record a unique 30-minute conversation on location on the Race to the Stones course.

If they’ve done it right it’ll be a bit like one of those museum audio guides but instead of commentary on some fine work of antiquity you’ll get some funny takes on the part of the trail you’re running as you listen. I’d absolutely love it if it were that contextual and I think it could be a format rolled out for all kinds of races.

Whatever happens it should at least provide some welcome distraction from the constant chatter of your body, nagging you to throw in the towel and head to the pub.
